Paris luxury hotels

The hotel classification system used in France does not include the 5-star hotel category in Paris with which you may familiar. In general, the most luxurious hotels are classified as "4-star luxury". In Paris however, there are 5 very exclusive hotels which are considered to be in a class of their own, called "Palace" in French: the Ritz, Plaza Athene, the Four Seasons Georges V and… These hotels are often considered the equivalent of a 5-star hotel for Anglo-Saxon visitors.

You should also be aware that some hotels in Paris are classified as 4-star but offer a level of service and amenities superior to those normally found in this class of accommodation. Some examples of this type of hotel are the Hotel Costes, Pershing Hall, and Hotel de Sers. In order to distinguish these from other 4-star hotels, we often refer to a mid-range class known as "4-star superior", but you may also see these referred to as 5-star hotels, especially in communications intended for foreign visitors.
